Microdermabrasion & Diamond Dermabrasion

Microdermabrasion (also known as "The Power Peel") is more like softened sandblasting on your skin. It involves tiny crystals that are sprayed on the skin and works with minor skin problems like fine lines, dull skin, brown spots, mild acne scars, age spots and more.

The crystals and exfoliated skin particles are simultaneously vacuumed away through the same wand used in the procedure. Used crystals are sent to a second receptacle on the machine, and are discarded after the procedure.

Microdermabrasion can improve superficial skin problems somewhat. It works on all skin types and colors -- producing subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring.

Diamond Dermabrasion

Diamond microdermabrasion is a newer procedure, but one that is gaining popularity as a crystal-free microdermabrasion alternative. Instead of crystals that exfoliate the skin, with diamond dermabrasion, a wand with a diamond-encrusted tip is passed over the skin. The diamond tip abrades the skin and, like the crystal version, the exfoliated particles are then vacuumed away through the same wand.

Diamond microdermabrasion relies on microdermabrasion tips covered in tiny diamonds to perform skin exfoliation. When the diamond microdermabrasion tip makes contact with the skin it abrades against the top layer pulling it off.

The microdermabrasion machine then sucks the loose dead skin cells away from the face. Diamond microdermabrasion peel procedures are exactly the same in that the treatment provider passes the wand over each area of your skin three times.

One advantage of diamond crystal free microdermabrasion is that the dead skin cells are accumulated onto a cotton filter and you can see exactly what was removed from your skin after the treatment is finished.
