Massage services play an important role at Resplendent Day Spa in supporting our clients’ overall health and well-being. Our massage therapists are trained in a complete range of massage techniques, including versatile wood therapy. This innovative method promotes a better mood and better skin alike, and is often used in conjunction with treatments like vacuum therapy for non-invasive body sculpting.

What is wood therapy?
Wood therapy gets its name from the use of a variety of different organic, wooden tools. Vigorous massage techniques are used with these tools to promote lymphatic drainage and to naturally detox and contour the body. Also known as maderotherapy or maderoterapia, this treatment originated in ancient China but was later adapted and popularized for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes in South America.
How does it work?
Wood therapy uses repetitive movements with various wood instruments to manipulate targeted areas of cellulite, fat, and muscle. This process stimulates the lymphatic system, effectively moving stagnant or congested fluids in the body. By removing unnecessary water, fat, and other toxins and promoting fresh lymph fluid, wood therapy eases pain and inflammation, supports a healthy metabolism, improves blood flow, and activates the production of collagen and elastin to contour stubborn bulges and tighten lax areas of the face and body.
What conditions does wood therapy treat?
As a lymphatic massage technique, there are many potential benefits. Wood therapy has been used successfully to:
- Soften the appearance of cellulite
- Improve wrinkles
- Tighten skin
- Lift saggy areas
- Add definition and recontour spots
- Improve immune function
- Reduce stress
- Relieve pain and ease stiffness
- Speed muscle recovery
- And more!
What parts of the body may be treated?
There are many different types of wooden instruments used to perform treatment. We can use smaller instruments to treat smaller areas and larger ones to treat bigger spots. So, wood therapy may be just as appropriate on the neck and jawline as it is on the arms, legs, waist, abdomen, thighs, and backside.

What can I expect from treatment?
Treatment is tailored to your needs. But, in general, we apply oil over the areas to be treated. Then, one of our professionals uses special tools to vigorously apply pressure to the area. Different tools manipulate the skin and underlying tissues in various ways – either rolling, stretching, smoothing, torquing, or suctioning to get a desirable result without harm to the treatment sites.
How many treatments will I need?
This non-invasive form of body sculpting can get some noticeable results after just one treatment. However, a series of treatments is generally needed to get optimal results and to sustain them. For instance, a series of 6 – 12 treatments may be performed 2 – 3 times a week to gradually firm skin, reduce bloating, and smooth cellulite dimples. For best results, Resplendent Day Spa may also combine wood therapy with vacuum therapy (as a combination Brazilian Butt Lift treatment).
